Mercy One Helicopter Donation

The Iowa Heart Foundation provided matching funds needed to purchase the new hi-tech piece of equipment called a portable intra-aortic balloon pump, for Mercy One. The new device which is much smaller and lighter was recently used for the first time during a transfer from Fort Dodge and helped save a life. A generous donation from a former Iowan with Webster County ties made this possible.

Run For Your Life

The 8th Annual Run For Your Life run/walk event was held on Saturday, August 29, 2015 at Des Moines Water Works Park with almost 200 registrants including 10 "teams". There were 30 Carlisle High School Cheer Squad members and 50 volunteers that helped make this year's event memorable. AED Access for All volunteers, Susie & Butch Gibbs, demonstrated hands-only CPR while Troy Armstrong with the Decatur County Hospital Mass Casualty Response Trailer provided information on emergency response in rural areas. Funds raised by this event supports placement of 4 AEDs in the coming year.

Fall Conference

The 7th Annual Fall Conference was held on Saturday, November 7, 2015 at the Iowa Heart Center office in West Des Moines with 50 nurse practitioners, nurses, and medical assistants in attendance. The next professional education event is the 25th Annual Cardiovascular Today Conference scheduled on Saturday, February 6, 2016 at the West Des Moines Sheraton. The brochure will be available in mid-December.

AED Placements

AEDs (automatic external defibrillator) were funded at Faiferlick Martial Arts & Fitness (Fort Dodge), City of Leon Swimming Pool, Allerton United Methodist Church, the First Presbyterian Church (Knoxville), Lenox Community School District, Diagonal Community Schools, Mayflower Heritage Christian School (Creston), First Christian Church Disciples of Christ (Creston), Adams County Courthouse (Corning), East Union Community Schools (Afton), St. Malachy School (Creston), and Creston Elementary/Middle School. The AEDs are funded by proceeds from the annual "Run For Your Life' event in August.

AEDs were are placed (privately funded) with training provided at Creston Automotive and the Iowa State Savings Bank locations in Creston, Lenox and Diagonal. The placements in a four county area of southern Iowa were part of a "Pay It Forward" initiative within the greater Creston area.
