Nursing Tuition Scholarships

The recipients of the 2015 Nursing Tuition Scholarships have been announced as follows: C.J. Hawkins Memorial Scholarship ($1,800) to Angela Davis at Mercy College; C.J. Hawkins Memorial Scholarship ($1,200) to Ellen Reiter at Mercy College; Erma M. Hawkins Memorial Scholarship ($1,800) to Anita Leveke at Mercy College; Erma M. Hawkins Memorial Scholarship ($1,200) to Christina Baker at Mercy College; Dr. David and Leticia Gordon Scholarship ($1,000) to Kylie Johnson at Mercy College; and Iowa Heart Foundation scholarships to Bethany Wildt ($500) at Iowa Central Community College and Tyler Stover ($250) at Grand View University. Congratulations to each of these scholarship recipients!

AED Placements

AEDs (automatic external defibrillator) were funded at Faiferlick Martial Arts & Fitness (Fort Dodge), City of Leon Swimming Pool, Allerton United Methodist Church, the First Presbyterian Church (Knoxville), Lenox Community School District, Diagonal Community Schools, Mayflower Heritage Christian School (Creston), First Christian Church Disciples of Christ (Creston), Adams County Courthouse (Corning), East Union Community Schools (Afton), St. Malachy School (Creston), and Creston Elementary/Middle School. The AEDs are funded by proceeds from the annual "Run For Your Life' event in August.

AEDs were are placed (privately funded) with training provided at Creston Automotive and the Iowa State Savings Bank locations in Creston, Lenox and Diagonal. The placements in a four county area of southern Iowa were part of a "Pay It Forward" initiative within the greater Creston area.

Run For Your Life run/walk

Save the Date! The 8th Annual Run For Your Life run/walk event will be held on Saturday, August 29, 2015 at Des Moines Water Works Park. Pre-registration is $30 while event day registration is $40. Brochures are available by calling (515)633-3555. Register on-line at www.getmeregistered.com. New in 2015: Register as part of a team (Team Name on t-shirt) and Earn a medal by collecting donations totaling at least $100.

One Dime at a Time

The Iowa Heart Foundation was designated the One Dime at a Time recipient for January, February, and March at Whole Foods Market(WFM) in West Des Moines. WFM customers donated more than $1800 by contributing a dime at a time when using recyclable bags. Together we are making a positive impact on the local community and environment one dime at a time!
